Çekiciler Street

The products of craftsmanship are sold in Çekiciler Street located on the southern skirts of the fortress on the peninsula. The manufacture shops, except for one or two, are in Ahatlar Village 3km. away to Amasra.

The Art Chaftsmanship which is in a sense carving is said to have dated back to Phoenicians lived in 1200s B.C.Getting this art from Egypt, those who are dealing with trade brought it to Sesamos town and the linted tress made it steady.



Being paused several times, the art is carried on during  the Ottoman Period.In the 16th century, those dealing with this art, begin to open manufacture workshops in a definite area. That place now involves The Çekiciler Street.

In the 17th century, an order for furniture is givin from the palace in İstanbul. The interest in this art rises afrer the delivery of the furniture on time. The craftsmen of the era used gadgets that need the wrist power.


By the use of electrical lathes in the firts half of 19th century, the manual gadgets are left.While the soft trees such as boxwood, walnut, thrush and chestnut are preferred.


Some souvenirs such as salad and nuts plates, spice kits, honey jars, rollers and nutcrackers are made from these trees. The increasing density of tourism day by day rises the ambitions more.As a result, ship model, ring and so many other souvenirs are added to the existed products.


In the last decade, manuel labor for light eyes works such as Tel Kırma, Sarma and Kaneviçe have begun to ornament the windows of the shops with the products of craftsmanship art.


The inhabitants of Amasra try to make an interesring connection between the tourists and souvenirs. If a tourist leaves without getting a product, it means the sing of not loving Amasra...




Amasra Beach

Located 10 miles on the northeast of Bartın, Amasra Beach has a length of half a mile. Amasra with its refreshment, entertainment and accommodation facilities, has been one of the most important touristic centers in Turkey since 1940s.


Natural Values Gürcüoluk Cave

Gurcuoluk cave is 13km to Amasra and 6km to Çakraz. The cave is very rich on account of stalactites. Stallactites have different colours and shapes. The stallactives, stalagmites, walls with organ shape webbed stalactites moreover cave flowers and cave roses have been formed on the middle height stalagmites.

The mysterious view inside the cave captivates the visitors and shows the nature's pover.

The cave has grown horizontol.It has a lounge in the middle and 36 rooms which have transition to each other. The height of the ceiling changes from room to room.
Considered as a whole, Gürcüoluk cave is 159m from entrance to the edn. The cave structured by Bartin City State Administtration in 2007, and it has been runned by a private company...

Fatih Mosque

It is Byzantine church that was built in Amasra Castle in the 9th century.It has been turned into mosque by Fatih Sultan Mehmet when he conquered Amasra in 1460.

It's Narthex that has all the characteristics of the time and Apses were added to the building later on.The mosque has the size of 19×11 m. In 1887, vault roof which covers the places besides 4 roofs and which sometimes has the danger of collapse was taken away and instead a wooden ceiling and roof were put and restored.

"Praying with drawing a sword in Friday Khutba" tradition still contiunies in Fatih Mosque and it can't be seen in other Muslim Countries or even in Turkey.



As it is known,Prophet Mohammed prayed Friday Khutba in Mekke with his war clothes and drawing his sword.It has accepted as Sunned and practiced in all mosque.After 1400 years passed, it has been forgotten but in Amasra Fatih Mosque it is still practiced and draws attention...



Chapel

It is old Chapel (Small Church) in the centre castle.It has been changed into a mosque in the 15th century and after 1930 it was closed for worship.It was restored in 2002 and opened as "Culture and Art House".

The chapel which was built with bridge-stone weave sytem in the 9th century has dimensions of 11×7m.At the Ambon Arch, Jesus uplifting to sky is portrayed.Besides this, the Narthex and other parts of Ambon are ornamented with colored and religious wall pictures (frescos) but, frescos were damaged withing the time...


Ottoman Bath

It is thought toplam hava ben in Thé 10.1 century.There area cold part, warm part, bathing part with 3 basins of bath and water tanks and water tanks and a külhan (oven that heats the hamam from underground) bathing place is covered with one central dome and two half domes.Cold part has been collapsed.'Biye's seen at 4 sides, have the architectural charasterisitic of Anatolian States Era...

Kemere Bridge and Kemerdere Bridge

SUMMARY: Kemer Bridge is in Amasra Castle. And  it is connect two castles.

It binds Sormagir Castle in Boztepe to Zindan Castle in Amasra.The bridge which belongs to Roman period  was built in 9th century...

It is a Roman bridge which was built in the reign of Roman Empire,Claudius and it is in Cevizlik Valley that is 3km to Amasra.It is a part of Roman Road net that passes in front of Kuşkayası Monument at the 8th km and brids Amasra to Bartın.A barely perceptible relief composition at one of the bridge's legs shows 7 soldier figures fighting with lances at Rome-Pontus Wars...



The Post Rock


It is located in the North-east of Small port and built in the Roman Period.This Column is thought to have been constructed to observe and illuminate the sea.There is a rummor among the people that the nearby pool is believed to have been built as the place of Queen  Amastris to swim...

Amastris Amphora

Amasra had been a famous center that produce amphoras at Amastris Period (308 and 285 BC) considering the shape they were similar to Taşoz Amphoras. There were two common types; one is large and the other is naarrow.Large ones resemble Sinom Amphoras with their gradual mouth, high sides, large ones resemblw Sinom Amphoras with their gradual mouth, high sides, large center, ovoidal body and spinous bottom.Their seals took place at their throat.Besides this convace inscription AMCHT/PIOC and at right bottom side an ivy leaf took place.The narrow ones resemble Heraclia Amphoras. Their seals are at their throat like the large ones.



The most important charasteristic of Amastris Amphoras is that a line at the edges of the mounth, and their seals aren't at the sides but they are at their throat...

Geneo Emblems

İn the 13th century, Genoas had mayn colonies such as;Samastro, Sakız Island, Foça, Galata, Samsun and Kefe.Genoas(İtalians) fixed their emblems on the castle walls they captured.Their aim was to tell public that all former thinga builty by Genoas.Also, Amasra Castle presents mayn emblem collections.



Blazons are 3 sets formed of 3 figures.Usually the figure in the middle is cross which symbolizes Genoa City.At its right, ther is an emblem of Doc's Family who rules Genoa and at its left there is the emblem of the consule who represents Genoan rule in Amasra...

Kuşkayası Street Monument

It's in Kuşkayası area, 4km far from Amasra and on Amasra-Bartın Highway.It was built in 41-54 AC by Gaius Julius Aguilla, who is assigned to Bitinya-Pontus Governership after being the commander of eastern states Building Force at the time of Roma Emperor Germanious Cladius. It is known to be one in the world.

It was built to commemorate Rome Emperor and it was a part of Roman road network.It contains sitting couch, rock niches and two tablets complementing each other with Rome Soverignty Eagle and King Statue
which is carved into rocks with relief technique.

King statue and Soverignty Eagle's heads are destroyed.In the niche that is around king figure and in the tablets which were found in the west away from the reliefs, are written that 'G.J. Anguilla split themountain and built this resting place with his own allocation for peace and friendship among nations.

The last trace of Roman Highway which has about 5m width is in front of this monument.And it's understood that Monument has a monumental fountain and in the lenght of time it collapsed.

Moreover,another monument which is very bare and in pair material with the Roman Period is seen at the Sayyan Roch Hill, overlooking to Amasra...

Amasra Castle

SUMMARY: Amastra Castle in Amasra. And Boztepe-Kemer Bridge-Zindan castle in Amasra Castle. Amasra Castle is behind the sea.

Amasra Castle belonging to Byzantine Period had been changed especially in Genoa Period and had been repaired at Geona and Ottoman Periods in 14-15C.
Castleis formed by two main masses.One is in Boztepe Sormagir Castle wihch is fixed to Amasra by bridge which is called'Kemere' and the other is Zindan Castle.At the norheast end there is Big Habour Door and in the west thhere is Small Harbour (Antique) Door and at the South there is Zindan Door.To Ssormagir Castle, it is entered from a vaulted main door which is adjecent with ' Dark Place' and 'Called Karanlık'
and it is exited in two doors either from Antique Harbour or Hacı Sea.


Amasra Castle's east walls' length which is between northastern and southeast is 65m. Its South walls which have 8 towers, which have a length of 300m and North walls beginning from Kemere Bridge are 200m long and most of them are destoyed.

Walls weren't built at Sormagir Castle because it's North and Northwest are very sharp over sea.The walls surrounding the east,northeast and west have collapsed but the walls which are 50m and adjacent to the door are still fit...

Amasra Museum

SUMMARY: Historical artifacts were collected in amasra museum.A lot of tourists are visit museum.

In 1995, portable archeological and ethnographic ancient works found in antique centre of Amasra and its surroundigs, have been exhibited in a smaller gallery room at the city hall.While in 1976 Ministry of culture were looking for a building for the museum, a building for the museum, a building which had been started to be buit for Navigation School in 1884, had been bought, restored and completed in 1983.



In Amasra Museum,that has been servicing in ıts present location since 1982 and that has 4 exhibition galeries, works that belong to Rome, Byzantium, Gensa and Ottoman period arts aare being exhibited...

Her Mevsimin Kenti - The city of all seasons

Amasra, in the middle of Black Sea,is laying the heaven which is waiting to be explored with its history and natural beauties.
It captivates its visitors with its sapphire blue water and work of arts left from glorious civilizations.

At the same time it's the city of museum ,art,architecture and restaurant of most beautiful fish and salad.This small town is an archeological open museum where the past and the future combine.

İts worldwide fame that it gained with it's exotically view isn't enought to tell the place.In Amasra, it is necessary to get lost in its labyrinths to understand its unknown face without being deceived by its glittering lights.

It isunknown how much the God worked to create this city.The only thing known is that Plinius called Amasra 'Elegant and Beautuful', Genoese called 'Flowered Castle',Diojen who said 'stand out of my light'. called Amasra 'A Balance' and Turkish Art Music veteran Zeki Muren called 'Small Capri'. In 1460, at time of conquest, Mehmet The Conqueror affecd from thhe view so much and couldn't hide his wonder and said 'Master Master, are these the eyes of the world?'
Poet Tahir Karaoğuz said in his poem that;
If the unıverse resembled to Amasra in the first instance
Even the dispensation of providence would be changed.
Adam; who was banished becauseof a fruit,
Would find Eve here, not at the bottom of yardarm.




7 Hills that make Amasra exotic is heavenly like forest cover which is formed of one peninsula,two islands and two gulfs.Because of the first tourism in 1940 and has been the first tourism town of Turkey.

The name of the city in archaic times was 'Sesamos' which means sesame.The name of the woman leader (Amastris) who governed Amasra in the 3'rd century BC had been an inspiration to ottomans and ever after the city called 'Amasra'.

The first ownersof old city were amazons. After Amazons Phoenicians, lonians, Carrions, Aka peoples, Byzantines, Genoese and Ottomans lived in Amasra.


Amasra take people from present day and bring to mysterious past with its castle, Kuşkayası street Monument.It gives an irreplaceable feeling by leavig us alone in the depths of past. It meets us with Apollo, Artemis, Hermes, Amastris by making us feel the thousands years before.
