Fatih Mosque

It is Byzantine church that was built in Amasra Castle in the 9th century. It has been turned into mosque by Fatih Sultan Mehmet when he conquered Amasra in 1460.

It's Narthex that has all the characteristics of the time and Apses were added to the building later on.The mosque has the size of 19×11 m. In 1887, vault roof which covers the places besides 4 roofs and which sometimes has the danger of collapse was taken away and instead a wooden ceiling and roof were put and restored.

"Praying with drawing a sword in Friday Khutba" tradition still contiunies in Fatih Mosque and it can't be seen in other Muslim Countries or even in Turkey.

As it is known,Prophet Mohammed prayed Friday Khutba in Mekke with his war clothes and drawing his sword. It has accepted as Sunned and practiced in all mosque. After 1400 years passed, it has been forgotten but in Amasra Fatih Mosque it is still practiced and draws attention...
